Western Australia Police and WA Police Historical Society

A milestone in the advancement of aids to detection was the taking of palm prints. Inspector A J Baird of the Police Scienti?c Bureau in Western Australia had been
working on a means to classify palm prints since 1938. He ?nally devised a system that was adopted in 1950, for the identi? cation of palm prints found at crime scenes, which in turn could be compared and identi?ed from the prints taken from criminals around the country.
